Excess Baggage

Should your baggage exceed the limitations of the Free Baggage allowance, an excess baggage charge needs to be paid.

For Domestic sectors within India, the excess baggage rate is INR 250 per kg.per coupon.

Effective 1st July, 2012. Service Tax will be applicable on the value reflected on allExcess Baggage tickets (EBTs), issued in India, except from the exempted airports. As in the case of passenger tickets, the rate of Service Tax will be4.944% of the excess baggage amount reflected on the EBT.

Airports exempted from Service Tax

Passengers originating or terminating in an airport located in the

state of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura or Bagdogra in West Bengal. The exemption therefore applies to/from the following airports: Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Jorhat, Lilabari, Silchar, Tezpur, Imphal, Shillong, Aizawl, Dimapur, Agartala, Bagdogra

Service Tax is not applicable in the state of Jammu & Kashmir (place of provision is outside taxable territory) i.e airports Jammu, Srinagar and Leh

Weight System

In the weight system the excess baggage charges per kilo is 1.5% of the highest normal direct one way economy class fare. These charges will be in effect on the date of issuance of the excess baggage ticket.

Excess Baggage for travel between India and USA/Canada.

Excess Baggage Charges (Per piece) More than 23 kgs up to 32 kgs (51-70 lbs) - USD 100.00 per piece. 3rd and each additional piece upto 50 lbs - USD 200.00 between India and US.

Oversize baggage fee between India and USA

  • If oversize baggage (including TV) is part of the free baggage allowance and is under 62" in total linear dimensions then no extra baggage charges apply.
  • If oversize baggage (including TV) is an additional piece and under 62" in total linear dimensions the fee is USD200 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR.
  • If oversize baggage (including TV) is part of the free baggage allowance and is in excess of 62" and within 80" in total linear dimensions the fee is USD200 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR.
  • If the oversize baggage (including TV) is an additional piece and measures between 62" to 80" in total linear dimensions the fee is USD400 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR.
  • If oversize baggage (including TV) is part of the free baggage allowance and is in excess of 80’ in total linear dimensions the fee is USD600 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR.
  • If the oversize baggage (including TV) is an additional piece and exceeds 80" in total linear dimensions the fee is USD600 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR.
  • Canada/India - Trans-Atlantic
  • To/ from Manitoba/ Saskatchewan/ Ontario - CAD185.00 per piece.
  • To/ from Alberta/ British Columbia
  • Northwest Territory and Yukon - CAD 196.00 per piece
  • To/from points other than listed above – CAD173.00 per piece

  • Paris to Delhi : 42 euros per kg

  • Frankfurt – India: EUR 30 per kg
  • Frankfurt - Bangkok: EUR 52 per kg
  • Frankfurt – Kathmandu: EUR 56 per kg

Carriage of other items

Any item other than normal baggage (suitcases, bags etc.) will be treated as special check-in item which will be charged separately irrespective of pooling in the permissible baggage allowance. A per piece flat charge per sector will be levied for such items (TV’s, Cycles, Golfbag, Diving equipment, Elect. Wheelchairs etc.) as follows:

  • Frankfurt -India : EUR100
  • Frankfurt - International : EUR150

  • Singapore to Interior points in India - SGD 21 per Kg.

Excess Baggage rate for travel between India and Australia

  • India to Sydney/Melbourne AUD 33 per KG (one way travel)
  • Sydney/Melbourne to India : AUD 33 per KG (one way travel)

Excess Baggage Rate for travel between India and Gulf / Middle East

Excess Baggage rate between India and Bahrain/Kuwait/Muscat/Abu Dhabi/Dubai/Sharjah/Dammam

First 10kgs (1-10 Kg) of additional baggage over and above the Free Baggage Allowance will be at a slab rate of USD 40. These rates will be the same for journeys boarding ex Gulf or ex India.

Baggage over and above Excess Baggage of 10kgs, the Excess Baggage rate will be 1 .5% of the highest normal direct one way economy class fare per kilo.
The applicable conversion rates for payment in local currencies will apply.

Excess Baggage rate from India to Riyadh/Jeddah

The Excess Baggage rate will be 1 .5% of the highest normal direct one way economy class fare per kilo.

Excess Baggage rate from Riyadh/Jeddah to India

Excess Baggage will be charged at the rate of SAR 30 per kilo.
