What is the responsibility of the Shipper?

A.

The Shipper is obligated to comply with all the customs and othergovernment regulations of any country flown from/to/through relating tothe packing, carriage and delivery of goods including the furnishing of suchinformation and documents as may be necessary to meet suchrequirements. Carrier will be under no obligation to inquire into thecorrectness or sufficiency of required information, document or marking.

A.

Air India offers the facility to carry a variety of commodities like GeneralCargo, Courier, Perishable, Live animals, Valuable Cargo, Newspapers,Magazines, books, Periodicals, Human Remains, Dangerous Goods, HeavyCargo, Wet cargo etc.

Does Air India operates Freighter?

A.

No. AI at present doesn’t have a freighter aircraft but does utilise PassengerAircrafts with Cabin Loading .Cargo is carried in the belly of the aircraft as wellas Passenger Cabin depending upon the type of the aircraft the cargo is loadedonto the aircraft on ULDs (pallets/container) OR loose cargo loading is done inbulk.

A.

Yes, Cargo on AI flights can be booked either through AI cargo Agentsor Through AI Cargo booking offices.

What is the rate structure for booking cargo on AI flights?

A.

The charges for booking Cargo on AI flights include the applicable FreightCharges plus other applicable charges. The details of which can be acquiredfrom nearest AI cargo office based on the market conditions, AI often offerspromotional rates on its specific flghts/sectors.

Does AI offers any special rate for Specific Commodities?

A.

Yes, In order to promote the movement of special commodities (like cherriesfrom Srinagar, Sea food
from Coastal area, Pharmaceuticals, Auto-parts etc) AI does offer Specificcommodities rates.

When is I required bringing my cargo for a domestic flight?

A.

The cut off time for Acceptance of Domestic Cargo is Three hours prior to thedeparture of the flight.

When is I required bringing my cargo for an International flight?

A.

The cut off time for Acceptance of International Cargo is four hours priorto the departure of the flight after completing all the Customs formalities.

What procedure do I need to follow for booking "Human remains "on AI flights?

A.

A. Carriage of Human Remains is under special arrangements and is subject tofurnishing requisitedocuments.
The following documents are required for the carriage of Human Remains ifthe transportation is on domestic flights of AI:-
1) Death Certificate,
2) Cremation Certificate (If as ashes) ,
3) Embalming Certificate(If in coffin)
4) Police Certificate. Must if the death is unnatural.
The following additional documents are required for the carriage of HumanRemains if the transportation is on International flights of AI:-
1) Cancelled passport,
2) Consular Certificates (from the office of the Consular ofthe nationality of thedeceased)

Can I transport my pet dog on AI flights?

A.

Yes, AI does carry pet dogs as Cargo. However, advance intimation needsto be given to the cargo section at the airport of departure. Only thoseanimals which appear to be in good health shall be accepted fortransportation. A Health /Quarantine certificates from a practicingveterinary doctor is also required. For further details, the nearest AI cargooffice may be contacted.

A.

Yes, you can book your shipments on "To-Pay " basis wherein the consigneecan make the due payments to AI at the time of delivery .However thefollowing shipments will not be accepted under "TO-Pay " basis
a.) Perishablesb.) Newspapers
c.) Human remains
d.) Unaccompanied Baggage /personal effects
e.) Where the re- sale value of the goods would be less than thetotal amount to be collected
f.) Livestock

What kind of shipments cannot be carried as Cargo on AI flights?

A.

There are certain types of cargo which are not acceptable forcarriage by air by AI. They are:
a.) Goods liable to endanger theaircraft, persons or property
b.) Goods which are prohibited by law/regulation of the country oforigin/destination /transit/over flown.

What is the packaging requirements to book cargo for AI flights?

A.

The cargo which is accepted for carriage must be in "Ready for Carriage ".The cargo is said to be "ready for carriage "only when they are –Properlypacked, Properly Marked, properly labelled and Properly Documented withthe correct weight of the entire shipments
